Doorstep Meals was created by CEO and founder, Fred Gushwa. His inspiration was to develop a healthy meal delivery system that offers high quality meals in a convenient way.
Our process of bringing a healthy meal delivery system to consumers began in 2019. With the expertise of Dr. Alex Smithers and Executive Chef Ralph Humes, the vision has become reality. The company launched its first sale in August 2020 and the dream of providing healthy, quality meals in a convenient way to consumers was born.
Our office is located in Sturgis, Michigan where all the magic of the company happens. Our Influencer and Customer Success teams work from this location to bring you the best customer service in the industry.
Our kitchen is located in Wichita, Kansas. The chef and kitchen staff freshly prepared your meals every weekend to ensure you have the best tasting, highest quality meals delivered fresh to your door each week. Our chocolate chip pre-bio cookies cannot be forgotten! The bakery creates those fresh for you to enjoy. Eating healthy never tasted so good!

Fred is a native of Sturgis, MI where his family still lives on the original farm where he
grew up. He has owned many successful companies in Sturgis and throughout
Michigan such as multiple piano stores, Great Lakes Coffee and Chocolate, and
currently Hometown Welcome and Doorstep Meals. When he’s not working, he loves
to spend time on his boat on Lake Michigan and with his Golden Retriever, Riley, who
is a regular at the office every day.
Tammy joined the Doorstep
Meals team in June 2020
bringing 20 years of
extensive background and
leadership expertise from the
Calvin Klein brand. She has
a talent to create team
synergy and drive results through customer service and team collaboration.
Her passion outside of work
includes scuba diving as a
Padi Dive Master in the
Caribbean and Pacific
oceans with her husband
and family. Anyone that
knows Tammy knows she is
an avid shark and ocean
Meg joined the Doorstep
Meals team in June 2020 after
working for Hometown
Welcome. She brings a strong
background in customer
service and employee
relations to the team. Meg
has an incredible eye for detail
and is passionate about
creating customer loyalty and
a customer success culture
that will set us apart as a
company. When Meg isn’t at
work, you will find her
spending time with her family
and out on the disc golf
course competing in
Dr. Alex Smithers is a Physician with degrees in both Eastern and Western Medicine.
He had his entry into medicine studying traditional Chinese Medicine. After
graduating top of his class, he went on to enter Western Medical school. He graduated
Cum Laude and found that his time in the hospital reaffirmed his awareness
that western medicine shines in some areas and it is extremely misguided in others.
While Western medicine is unparalleled in the areas of emergency and trauma
medicine, it is remarkably deficient in its ability to address chronic disease. His passion
to treat chronic disease with a mixture of Western and Eastern medicine was born. A
native of Sarasota, Doctor Smithers’ family has a long and well-known history in the
Ralph has owned restaurants such as Soul Hole, Mana and Sweet Mama’s Kitchen. He is known as a Chef to the Stars; cooking up
incredible tasting meals from kitchens in concert halls to cooking for artists, bands,
and crews on the road. He’s worked for such artists and groups as Neil Diamond,
Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Miranda Lambert, Bob Dylan,
Mavis Staples, Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift. He has a passion for music and plays
the bass whenever he gets the opportunity. Ralph resides in Michigan on a lake near the Sturgis area with his wife. After all the years of traveling, there is nothing better than spending time with his family and relaxing by the lake!
Riley brightens up the
office with his personality
and love of treats. He
spends his day lounging
around and checking on
each member of the
